Native American Heritage Month
"Native American Heritage Month, commonly known as American Indian & Alaska Native Heritage Month, honors the indigenous people living in the United States before the arrival of the Europeans. In November, the United States honors and celebrates the customs and legacy of Native Americans." Source: PBS Learning Media
"Native peoples have adapted with the changing landscapes of our nation since time immemorial. Through struggles and triumphs, from the earliest points of colonization through our modern time, Native Americans and Alaskan Natives have continuously endeavored to be of service to their communities, protect their lands and life-giving waters, and maintain the traditional ways of life that have been passed down from one generation to the next.
Fully grasping our nation's history can only occur with an awareness of Native peoples’ experiences, not only as historic groups, but also as enduring societies who actively engage with and contribute to the American social fabric today." Source: LBUSD OCIPD
